Entry Level Game Jobs - Devlog 1
Some background about me: I have almost always wanted to be a game developer (I had found an assignment I had made in kindergarten saying so). But that became more realistic when one of my friends in college invited me to join a game jam. I immediately became captivated by the idea of game development. I pursued it full-time, applying to different game studios and working on smaller game projects with teams.
Fast-forward to 2023, when I was laid off from my non-games industry position. I decided to use this time to try and use this opportunity to pivot towards making games full-time. But this industry is notorious for getting into it, and I was also having trouble getting my foot in the door. I wanted one place that was a central point for finding different ways to get into the industry.
That's when I found a couple of courses about making a job board website (I was brushing up on some web developer skills for other jobs I was applying for). After following Amir Satvat and seeing all the resources posted, I decided to make a website that would be a helpful central point for all those other resources.
The first idea was to develop a resources section for starting points in development skills. This is where some of the backend comes in. I decided that using Payload CMS backed with a Supabase Postgres database, I am able to constantly update and add different resources to the website.
This is what is currently live on the website. I'll update this blog with more posts as more parts are added to the site.
